Picnic adventures: Pear and blue cheese tartlets
The most popular item from the Kirstenbosch picnic – they disappeared so fast I didn’t have a chance to get a picture! Literally the easiest and most delicious thing in the world.
Pear and blue cheese tartlets
1 pack of pre-made short crust pastry (I’m usually a huge advocate of from scratch, but supermarkets now make as a good a pastry as I can and it saves time to keep a roll in the freezer.)
1 chunk of blue cheese, about 125g (A danish blue/gorgonzola/stilton – any will do, don’t spend too much money on it)
A little sugar
A little balsamic glaze
Cut circles out of the pastry to fit in a greased muffin tin.
Fill each circle with a little blue cheese, top with a few slices of pear, sprinkle with a little sugar, drizzle with a little balsamic glaze and bake for around 30-40 minutes or until the pastry is browned and the pears caramelised.
